We are super pumped to be partnering with USA Roundnet to host their Midwest Regional. We can’t wait to have some of the best players in the region(and hopefully beyond) at this event. While the top teams will be competing for regional glory, nationals power pool spots, and for the chance to make Team USA, this event will be a great time for everyone in each of the divisions. On Sunday, we will be having a state squad competition. There are multiple divisions for you to assemble a state/city based squad to battle it out for state supremacy.

Divisions

Saturday

5.0+ Men’s: The 5.0+ division is for the highest skill level of men’s players and anyone who wants to compete for the Midwest regional title, a power pool spot at USAR nationals, and for the chance to make the Team USA roster for Worlds. This division will also feature cash payouts to the top finishing teams. The No Hit Zone will be used in 5.0+. 5.0+ is comparable to premier divisions at STS events.

Women’s 4.5+: The women’s 4.5+ division is for any players looking to compete in an all women’s division. Whether this is your 1st competitive tournament or you’re competing for the Midwest regional title, we will make this a fun experience for you. There are also power pool spots on the line at USAR nationals, and the chance to be in the mix to make the Team USA roster for Worlds. This division will also feature cash payouts to the top finishing teams. The No Hit Zone will be used in 4.5+.

4.0 Open Advanced: The advanced division is for very competitive players who aren’t quite ready to play at the highest level just yet. This division does use the No Hit Zone. This is comparable to the contender division at STS events.

2.0-3.0 Open Intermediate: The intermediate division is for players who have become comfortable with the rules of the game but are still early in their Roundnet career and still want to hone their skills some more. This division does not use the No Hit Zone

Sunday

5.0+ Men’s Squads: This squad division is for high level players looking to compete against the top men’s squads in attendance. It will primarily feature players who are STS premier. Each 5.0+ squad should feature at least 2 current STS premier players. NHZ will be used.

Women’s Squads: These squads are for women’s players looking to try out this new format. It will likely feature a mix of higher level women’s players as well as some less experienced ladies. NHZ will be used.

4.0 Open Advanced Squads: The advanced squads division is for very competitive players who aren’t quite ready to play against the highest level of competition just yet. This is for players who consider themselves at a contender level in STS. Squads in this division can not feature any current STS premier players. NHZ will be used.

Free Agent: Don’t have a partner yet but want to play in this tournament? Then sign up as a free agent for FREE to get your name out there. That way you can also lock in the registration price of the day you register. Once you find a partner, email the tournament director so they can issue you a discount code to match the price of when you registered as a free agent(if it increased since then).

If you’re still unsure which division to play in, check out the more detailed descriptions on the USA Roundnet website here: https://www.usaroundnet.org/player-division-ratings

Event Overview

Saturday

Day 1 will be a standard tournament with teams of 2 facing off across skill and gender based divisions. As a part of the USAR national series, the 5.0+ Men’s and Women’s 4.5+ divisions will be competing for higher stakes. The top finishing teams in those divisions that designate themselves as “in region” will be crowned the Midwest regional champions. If the 1st place team isn’t an in region team, they will still earn the 1st place hardware and payouts.

The overall winner of the 5.0+ Men’s and Women’s 4.5+ divisions will automatically earn a bid to the Power Pools for Nationals. If the overall winner is not “in-region,” the top placing in-region team will also be awarded a bid.. If for example, the top 4 teams aren’t in region, then we would play out for 5th(or 9th if needed) to crown the best in region team. In that scenario, the out of region team that finished 1st and the in region team that placed highest in the consolation bracket would both earn power pool spots.

The top 4 teams in the 5.0+ Men’s and Women’s 4.5+ divisions will all become eligible for selection for Team USA. Finishing top 4 at a regional(regardless if in region or not) puts those players into the pool of candidates who can be selected to play for the US national team at the World Championship later this year in London.

Sunday

On Sunday, we will be running a state squad style event with 6 players per squad. There will be 3 divisions offered and all squads will be geographically based.

Eligibility: All players on a squad must be from the same state. States can bring multiple squads in any division(we encourage this). If there are multiple squads from one state in a division, try to name the squad based on a city or area(ex Akron, OH, Southern Illinois). A player must live in the state or area of the squad they’re playing for at least 3 months of the year and have lived there within the last year. Exceptions will be considered if 2 neighboring states with smaller communities want to combine on a squad. Send any requests to illinoisroundnet@gmail.com

Rules and Format: Each squad will consist of 6 players. They will pair up into 3 different teams who play the whole event together. The “A” team should be the best team of the 3, “B” team 2nd best, and “C” team 3rd. The A team doesn’t have to be the 2 best players, but must be the best pairing. If a squad’s rankings do not seem to be ranked accurately, the TD reserves the right to make a squad adjust them. Squads can play with only 4 players, however they would be forfeiting the C game each matchup.

All squads will start with pool play. Each team will play 1 game against each other team in their pool at their level on their squad. The A teams would face off against the other A teams and so on. Whichever squad wins at least 2 of the games in the matchup gets that win. Then based on squads’ overall match records, game records, and average point differential, they will be seeded into the bracket. All squads make the bracket. In bracket play, each team will play a best 2 out of 3 series against the team at their level(A, B, C). Just like in pool play, whichever squad gets to 2 wins, advances in the bracket.

Estimated Men's Final: 6pm

Sunday

Sunday’s squads event will follow the same schedule as Saturday except bracket play shouldn’t run as long(should end sometime around 3-5pm).

*This is a preliminary schedule. Times may be adjusted if games take longer to complete or finish early. Each division may have a different lunch break depending on when pool play games finish.

*ALL TEAMS MUST arrive and be checked in by 8:30am both days. Failure to do so may result in forfeitures of games.

Format

Your team will start the day with pool play. You will be placed into a pool of other teams. Ideally we will have smaller pools of 5-6 teams so games can be to 21, however we may have to do pools of 7-8 with games to 15 depending on the total number of teams. If the number of teams is lower in a division, we could also have pools of 4-5 teams and play 2 games against each team in your pool. After each game you will input your score on the event’s Fwango page from your phone(you will be emailed the link and instructions to do this). Then based on pool play results, you will be seeded into a bracket based on record and point differential. The goal will be to have most if not all bracket matches be a best 2 out of 3 series with games to 21. All brackets will be capped at 32 teams. If a division has more than 32 teams, the top 32 teams will make the A bracket and any remaining teams will go into a B bracket. The bracket will be played out until we have a winner. If you lose your 1st bracket match, you will be placed into a consolation bracket so everyone is guaranteed at least 2 matches. All results of the tournament will be available in real time on the Fwango page

*Format is subject to change at TDs discretion based on the number of teams, time, etc.

Rules

We will be using the 2024 USA Roundnet rules at all Illinois Roundnet events. Be sure to familiarize yourself with these if you are new to the tournament scene. https://www.usaroundnet.org/rules

FAQs

*Can there be more than 2 players on a team?

No. We only allow 2 players per team because stamina becomes a factor in the later rounds of the tournament.

*Can I play in multiple divisions?

Not on the same day. All the divisions run at the same time. However, we hope to see you play on both days!

*Is food and water provided?

We will provide some water bottles, bananas, and snacks but we still ask you bring your own to ensure you’ll be good for the whole day

*My partner I signed up with can’t attend anymore, can I find a new partner and get that changed on the registration without having to re-register?

Yes, if this is the case please you should be able to change this yourself on Fwango. If not then send an email to Illinoisroundnet@gmail.com and include your team name(and new team name if you want it changed), division, and your new partner’s name and info so we can troubleshoot.

*Where can I get updates on social media?

Be sure to follow Illinois Roundnet on Instagram(@IllinoisRoundnet) for updates on this and other events in the state. Give USA Roundnet(@usa_roundnet) a follow for updates on all things roundnet in the US.
