Crete-ASL Squads
Crete ASL Squad Draft
6/8/24
Register Here
We are pumped to be returning to Crete to partner with the American Spikers League to host a draft style squads event. Anyone who's taken part in an ASL league or the program playoffs in Orlando will tell you how much fun this format can be. No partner is required as each player signs up individually. Squads will consist of 6-8 players that will be drafted by the captains after registration closes. This format is great for all skill levels!
Venue
Heritage Park
1550 S Sangamon St
Crete, IL 60417
United States
We will be set up on the soccer fields on the northwest side of the park. When you pull into the parking lot, take a right and go all the way down towards the end of it.
Surface: grass
Equipment
Starting in 2024, Illinois Roundnet will be switching to Premier Spike as the official equipment sponsor of our events, leagues, and pickups. We will still use Spikeball pro balls for 2024 to not make things too drastic of a change. We are excited to be using the PS sets as they are significantly more sturdy. They won’t bend into awkward shapes after big hits or serves and the rims are much less likely to break.

Format
Once registration closes, we will select squad captains. They will draft each player to their squads. Squads will consist of 6-8 players based on the number of players registered. There will be no set teams on the squads as captains will determine who plays with who each round. Squads will be put into a pool and play the other squads in the pool. Each matchup will consist of 2 “halves” where each squad will use 2 different lineups. Games will most likely be played to 15. Whichever squad wins the most games in the matchup wins. Since there will be an even number of games played, one of the nets in the 2nd half will serve as a 2 point net. To determine this, each captain will pick one net that they don’t want to be the 2 point net and the one not chosen will serve as it.
Then based on pool play results, each squad will be seeded into a bracket. The brackets will be played similarly to pool play except that there will be 4 “quarters” instead of only 2 halves. Like in pool play, games will most likely be played to 15 and there will be a 2 point net in the 4th quarter. If a squad has already mathematically won the match after 3 quarters, the 4th quarter doesn’t need to be played.
How lineups are determined: Each player will be ranked based on skill level(ex a squad’s best player will be ranked 1st and so on down the roster). When a captain makes a team, their combined ranking will give them a pair score. For example, if a team’s 1st and 4th ranked players are partners, that gives them a pair score of 5, while a team consisting of 5th and 7th ranked players would have a pair score of 12. In order to keep teams relatively fair, the variance of pair scores in a matchup can’t exceed 3. 2 players also can’t play in 2 consecutive games together within a matchup. If a squad has an odd number of players, one player will have to sit each game but can’t sit more than 2 games in a row in a matchup.
We will still use Fwango to report and track results of pool and bracket play. Registration will be done through ASL’s site linked at the top of this page.
