Team Illinois

Team Illinois is our way to crown the best players in the state of Illinois. As it sounds, Team Illinois is only open to people who are a resident of Illinois for at least part of the year. Team Illinois will consist of the top 10 men’s players like previous years and for the 1st time, it will also include 2 women’s players as a way to promote the growth of women’s roundnet in the state.  Perks of being on Team Illinois include: exclusive merch, priority features on our website and Instagram, discounted registration to future Illinois Roundnet events, and having the 1st choice to represent Illinois in any state squad tournaments in the next year.

Who is eligible: any player who lives in Illinois for at least 3 months of the year(part of which must be before the tournament series ends). Examples of who’s eligible: full time residents, players who go to college in Illinois, college students who reside in Illinois but go to an out of state school, and anyone on an internship or work assignment. If you are unsure if you qualify, send an email to illinoisroundnet@gmail.com and explain the situation.

Qualifying Process

The tournaments in our series are where players can earn points towards the Team Illinois standings. The 10 men’s players and 2 women’s players who finish with the highest point totals will make Team Illinois. Points will be rewarded based on a player’s finish in the top division(s) at an event. Results do count towards Team Illinois points if an Illinois player plays a tournament with an out of state player.

Men’s and women’s players will earn points based on a standard event scale. Men’s players will also have an elevated point scale that carries a 1.5 multiplier from the standard event scale for some of the bigger events. Due to lower than expected turnout, the Peoria tournament’s points will use a 0.8 multiplier to keep results more comparable to events with a more typical team count. Certain events will be opportunities for men’s players to earn points and others will be opportunities for women’s players to earn points. Here is the list of events where points are available for each.

Men’s

Peoria 4/13

Huntley 4/27(1.5x)

Oak Brook 7/14(Mixed Divisions Only)

St Charles 7/27

State Championship 8/10(1.5x)

Notes

*Huntley’s men’s points will be distributed like our STS Challenger in Schaumburg last year. The top 32 teams across the 5.0+ and 4.0 Advanced divisions can earn elevated points. If there’s 20 teams in the 5.0+ division, then the top 12 spots in 4.0 Advanced would earn the 21st-32nd place point totals

*The Saturday divisions for Oak Brook will NOT count for any men’s Team Illinois points due to the high number of non Illinois players expected to take part with this being an STS major. The mixed divisions on Sunday are eligible for Team Illinois points to encourage more mixed participation.

*Oak Brook’s Sunday mixed event will be using the new STS format with 4 player teams for the 5.0+ division. A team’s finish will earn those 4 players the corresponding amount of Team Illinois points based on their placement. The Mixed 4.5 division will use the standard 2 player team format. The top 32 teams across the Mixed 5.0+ and Mixed 4.5 divisions can earn points. If there’s 20 teams in the Mixed 5.0+ division, then the top 12 spots in Mixed 4.5 will earn the 21st-32nd place point totals.

Women’s

Huntley 4/27

Oak Brook 7/13

Oak Brook 7/14

St Charles 7/27

State Championship 8/10

Notes

*Women’s players can also earn points for the women’s spots on Team IL by playing in the top open division at events without a women’s division. This also applies if a planned women’s division doesn’t get enough teams to run. They would get the points based on their finish in that division(ex finishing 13th in one of those events would earn 60 points in the women’s standings).

*At the Oak Brook women’s division, STS will be using the women’s pro division for the 12 highest seeded teams coming in based on combined STS player points. The pro division and the rest of the women’s advanced teams will be eligible for Team Illinois points(up to 32 teams).

*If a women’s player chooses to play in any open divisions when a women’s division is offered and has enough teams to run, they would not be able to earn points. They must play in the women’s division in order to gain Team Illinois points in the women’s standings in those scenarios.

The point scales can be seen in full below.

Tie breakers: In the event that there is a tie between two players on the points cutoff, the following would be used to break the tie. The 1st is whoever had the highest finish at an Illinois Roundnet event. The 2nd would be whoever didn’t have the lowest finish at an event. A 3rd tie breaker would be whoever was on a higher finishing squad in the Crete ASL tournament(if one person played in the event and the other didn’t, the player at the event would get the tiebreaker). The 4th and final tie breaker would go to whoever finished higher overall on the Saturday of Oak Brook. In the event that none of those broke the tie(ex the tie is between two players who only played with each other), then both players could make Team Illinois.
