State Championship-Wheeling
State Championship-Wheeling
8/10/24
Illinois Roundnet is so excited to bring you the 2nd annual Illinois State Championship! Last year was a great inaugural event and we are looking to do it even bigger and better this year. While the highlight of the day will be crowning our state champions, we aim to make this an epic event for all attendees. Please note the location change below.
Venue
Sycamore Trails Park
1500 E Kensington Rd
Mount Prospect, IL 60056
United States
***VENUE IS BEING MOVED. Due to lower than expected sign ups, we couldn’t justify running the event in Wheeling. We will be playing at Sycamore Trails Park in Mt Prospect.
There is a big grass field at the park as well as water fountains. There is a parking lot right there that fits about 25-30 cars. If the lot fills up, there is street parking in the neighborhood north of the park on Ironwood Dr. There is a walking path from the neighborhood to the park.
Surface: grass
Equipment
Starting in 2024, Illinois Roundnet will be switching to Premier Spike as the official equipment sponsor of our events, leagues, and pickups. We will still use Spikeball pro balls for 2024 to not make things too drastic of a change. We are excited to be using the PS sets as they are significantly more sturdy. They won’t bend into awkward shapes after big hits or serves and the rims are much less likely to break.
Divisions
Expert(4.5+): The expert division is for the highest skill level of players and anyone who wants to compete at the highest level. This division will also feature cash payouts to the top finishing teams. The No Hit Zone will be used in expert
Women’s: The women’s division is for any lady ballers looking to compete in an all women’s division. Whether this is your 1st competitive tournament or you’re competing for the state title, we will make this a fun experience for you. No hit zones will be drawn, however if a team isn’t comfortable using it yet, they can opt out of using it and both teams will play that match without it.
Advanced(4.0): The advanced division is for very competitive players who aren’t quite ready to play at the highest level just yet. This division does use the No Hit Zone.
Intermediate(3.0): The intermediate division is for players who have become comfortable with the rules of the game but are still early in their Roundnet career and still want to hone their skills some more. This division does not use the No Hit Zone
Free Agent: Don’t have a partner yet but want to play in this tournament? Then sign up as a free agent for FREE to get your name out there. That way you can also lock in the registration price of the day you register. Once you find a partner, email the tournament director so they can issue you a discount code to match the price of when you registered as a free agent(if it increased since then).
If you’re still unsure which division to play in, check out the more detailed descriptions on the USA Roundnet website here: https://www.usaroundnet.org/player-division-ratings
*Disclaimer: If a division does not get enough teams registered, you will be moved to another appropriate division or you can request a full refund.
Schedule
8:45am- 9:45am: Check-in/Warm-ups
9:45am-10:00am: Announcements
10:00am: 11:45am: Pool Play
11:45am: 12:30pm: Lunch Break
12:30pm-conclusion(should be around 5-6pm): Bracket Play
*This is a preliminary schedule. Times may be adjusted if games take longer to complete or finish early
*ALL TEAMS MUST arrive and be checked in by 9:30am. Failure to do so may result in forfeitures of games.
Format
You will start the day with pool play. You will be placed into a pool of other teams. Ideally we will have smaller pools of 5-6 teams so games can be to 21, however we may have to do pools of 7-8 with games to 15 depending on the total number of teams. If the number of teams is lower in a division, we could also consider having pools of 4-5 teams and play 2 games against each team in your pool. After each game you will input your score on the event’s Fwango page from your phone(you will be emailed the link and instructions to do this). Then based on pool play results, you will be seeded into a bracket based on record and point differential. The goal will be to have most if not all bracket matches be a best 2 out of 3 series with games to 21. The bracket will be played out until we have a winner. If you lose early in the bracket , you will be placed into a consolation bracket and you can continue playing those matches. All results of the tournament will be available in real time on the Fwango page.
*Format is subject to change at TDs discretion based on the number of teams, time, etc.
Rules
We will be using the 2024 USA Roundnet rules at all Illinois Roundnet events. Be sure to familiarize yourself with these if you are new to the tournament scene. https://www.usaroundnet.org/rules

FAQs
*Can there be more than 2 players on a team?
No. We only allow 2 players per team because stamina becomes a factor in the later rounds of the tournament.
*Can I play in multiple divisions?
No. All the divisions run at the same time.
*Is food and water provided?
We will provide some water bottles, bananas, and snacks but we still ask you bring your own to ensure you’ll be good for the whole day
*My partner I signed up with can’t attend anymore, can I find a new partner and get that changed on the registration without having to re-register?
Yes, if this is the case please you should be able to change this yourself on Fwango where you registered. If not then send an email to Illinoisroundnet@gmail.com and we can troubleshoot.
*Where can I get updates on social media?
Be sure to follow Illinois Roundnet on Instagram(@IllinoisRoundnet) for updates on this and other events in the state.
