Barrington-Inventor’s Cup
Inventor’s Cup-Barrington
5/13/23

We are partnering with ClubSpike for a 2nd straight year for the 3rd annual ClubSpike Inventor’s Cup. It’ll be the 1st event in both of this year’s Illinois Roundnet Series and MRA series. Over $1,500 will be given away for prize money! Sponsored by Jeff Knurek, the inventor of Spikeball back in 1989! Thank you Jeff! It’ll be held indoors to avoid any lingering Chicago winter weather and should feature plenty of top teams from the Midwest and maybe beyond. This event will also carry a 1.25 multiplier for the MRA tour series.
Venue
Canlan Sports
28156 Northpointe Pkwy
Barrington, IL

Canlan Sports in Barrington is a premier indoor athletic complex. It features a full size indoor turf soccer field. The venue just got new turf last year too. There are water fountains, vending machines, and concessions on site. You will need to sign the facility’s waiver to participate.
Surface: Turf
Divisions
Expert(4.5): The expert division is for the highest skill level of players and anyone who wants to compete at the highest level. This division will also feature cash payouts to the top finishing teams. The No Hit Zone will be used in expert
Women’s Expert: Women are welcome to play in any division. This division will include some top women's teams as well as other lady ballers who want to test their skills against great competition. We will organize the women's division based on skill level and number of registrations in a way to get the most competitive and evenly matched games whether you're a pro or new to the scene.
Contender(4.0): The contender division is for very competitive players who aren’t quite ready to play at the highest level just yet. This division does use the No Hit Zone
Intermediate(3.0): The intermediate division is for players who have become comfortable with the rules of the game but are still early in their Roundnet career and still want to hone their skills some more. This division does not use the No Hit Zone
Beginner(2.0): This may be your first tournament, but not your first rodeo or it is. Well, whichever it is, this division is for new players looking to learn and have fun while channeling their inner competitive spirit!
High School: Must be a current high school student. Roundnet tournaments are historically proven to improve SAT/ACT scores. See how you stack up against other high schoolers in the state! Start prepping for High School nationals 2022!
Free Agent: Don’t have a partner yet but want to play in this tournament? Then sign up as a free agent for FREE to get your name out there. That way you can also lock in the registration price of the day you register. Once you find a partner, email the tournament director so they can issue you a discount code to match the price of when you registered as a free agent(if it increased since then). This must be done before registration closes.
*If you’re still unsure which division to play in, check out the more detailed descriptions on the USA Roundnet website here: https://www.usaroundnet.org/player-division-ratings

Format
You will start the day with pool play. You will be placed into a pool of other teams. Ideally we will have smaller pools of 5-6 teams so games can be to 21, however we may have to do pools of 7-8 with games to 15 depending on the total number of teams. After each game you will input your score on the event’s Fwango page from your phone(you will be emailed the link and instructions to do this). Then based on pool play results, you will be seeded into a bracket based on record and point differential. The goal will be to have most if not all bracket matches be a best 2 out of 3 series with games to 21. The bracket will be played out until we have a winner. If you lose your 1st bracket match, you will be placed into a consolation bracket so everyone is guaranteed at least 2 matches. All results of the tournament will be available in real time on the Fwango page
*Format is subject to change at TDs discretion based on the number of teams, time, etc.

We will be using the 2023 USA Roundnet rules at all Illinois Roundnet events. Be sure to familiarize yourself with these if you are new to the tournament scene. https://www.usaroundnet.org/rules

FAQs
*Can there be more than 2 players on a team?
No. We only allow 2 players per team because stamina becomes a factor in the later rounds of the tournament.
*Can I play in multiple divisions?
No. All the divisions run at the same time.
*Is food and water provided?
We will provide some water bottles, bananas, and snacks but we still ask you to bring your own to ensure you’ll be good for the whole day. The venue does have water fountains.
*My partner I signed up with can’t attend anymore, can I find a new partner and get that changed on the registration without having to re-register?
Yes, if this is the case please you should be able to change this yourself on Fwango. If not then send an email to Cwilkins117@outlook.com and include your team name(and new team name if you want it changed), division, and your new partner’s name and info
*Where can I get updates on social media?
